Chante Moore comes to town

INTERNATIONAL R&B star Chante Moore comes to town. She is in Lagos on August 20 to support the True Health Foundation by performing at a charity concert organized by Virtual Xchange.

•Chante Moore

Incorporated in 2010, The True Health Foundation was set up following the vision of its founder, Stella Emmanuel, to help in addressing the dire need of funding for medicare of the less privileged in the society.

Having had to deal personally with chronic kidney failure over a four year period, from 2006 to 2010 along with the huge attendant costs for dialysis and constant monitoring and eventually a kidney transplantation in May 2010, she was awakened to the fact that though having passed through quite a distressful experience, she was indeed more fortunate than others around her who had even passed on due to their inability to afford the required medical care.

To address this situation, the foundation seeks to raise USD1.2milion to equip 10 designated public hospitals across Nigeria.

Despite Chante Moore’s success as an artiste she has not lost touch with the less privileged and identifies closely with the aims of the True Health Foundation.

With her smooth, lush vocals, and powerful delivery, Chante Moore is truly one of the unsung R n B legends.

Recognizing her immense talent and appeal, Virtual Xchange signed on Chante Moore for an African series of events that begins in South Africa on the 16th of August and continues with events in Lagos.

Popular Yoruba actress Folake Shadare Atie has joined the league of actresses who are proud owners of a classic boutique located in the down town.

Folake

Known as Flaky World, the actress opened the boutique on Tuesday amidst gaiety. It is located along the ever busy Egbeda-Akwojowo road.

Folake said she decided to set up the shop as a way of formalising her interest in business. “I have been into buying and selling for some time now; I just decided to set up this boutique as a way of formalising my business interest. I deal on high quality unisex wears, shoes, Italian scandals, and many other accessories.”

Speaking on why she located her business in the downtown, the tall dark-complexion actress said she wants to start off from somewhere before she can spread to other parts of the city.”

However, allaying the fear that setting up the shop will affect her acting career, Folake who is currently on location said “I engaged the services of two sales girls who will be assisting me in the day to day running of the business.”

Folake’s friends and close associates who graced the opening ceremony, including actress Bose Joseph, Josephine Bello, Olufumilayo Ayorinde amongst others commented on her sense of fashion.

“Folake has always been in the mainstream of fashion, even when she came on board as an actress, she came came in with a lot of style.” A graduate of the Lagos State University where she studied History and International Relations, Folake started acting in 2005 and stayed on the screen for two years before delving into business.

In the bid to meet the 2012 deadline for digital transition from analogue by the broadcast stations across the country, the Nigerian Film Corporation, NFC, and the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, on Thursday disclosed that the focus of this year’s NFC annual training and capacity building workshop otherwise, known as SHOOT, would empower and equip motion picture practitioners, broadcasters, and professionals in the creative industry for the tasks ahead.

Speaking during media interaction on the forthcoming workshop, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NFC, Mr Afolabi Adesanya said the annual workshop was initiated in response to the need for continuous manpower training and capacity development for Nigeria’s motion picture industry, which was in line with the corporation’s firm belief that keeping with global trends could only be achieved through deliberate efforts at sharpening the skills of the players in the industry.

“ Each edition had focused on important aspects of professional developments of the sector. This year’s edition will focus on the critical issue of digital migration.

This dominates discussions in the broadcast industry, and as a proactive agency, we are concerned as to how this will affect the business and art of production activities for film, television and radio.

“SHOOT 2011 will underscore how this transition can impact on production activities for film, television and radio in Nigeria and prepare practitioners within the sector for the challenges inherent in the transition”, he explained, stressing that necessary steps have been taken to achieve the 2012 deadline set by the NBC, in line with the International Communications Commission, ICC’s deadline for final migration by the year 2015.

Also speaking, the Director-General, NBC, Engr. Yomi Bolarinwa, represented by the Ag. Director, Broadcast and Content, Mrs Bunmi Cole, said what attracted NBC to collaborate with NFC on the workshop was the issue of content development, which she stressed was very necessary for digital migration.

She reiterated her commission’s readiness to assist broadcast stations to develop their programme contents.

The new look Ankara

Over the past fewyears, local fabric has been undergoing a dramatic revival, with more and moreNigerians returning to their traditional roots and choosing Ankara fabric overthe other choices available to them. What is most exciting about the resurgenceof Ankara, is that it is not just the older generation who are choosing to golocal, the younger generation has also seen the beauty and variety that isavailable to them in Ankara and are adapting its use to suit their modernlifestyles.

To tap into thistrend, some manufacturers of Ankara fabric have decided to inject a sense ofthe “modern” into their fabric, using bright colours and eye-catching designsto appeal to both younger and older generation. Da Viva, one of the leadingbrands of “modern” Ankara, has a very large following which cuts across thegenerations.

Mrs AnastasiaUndie-Adie, the Manager of the latest Daviva shop located at Opebi Street, saidsince the shop opened, they have gained a wide range of customers of all ages.

The new Daviva shopon Opebi Road is indeed a testament to the fact that Ankara fabric has reallystepped into the modern age. The layout and design of the shop can befavourably compared to any shop on the high streets of London or Paris.Beautiful fabrics of all colours are creatively displayed on spot-lit shelvesof polished wood

Apart from ourfabrics, there are Ankara shirts for men and dresses, skirts and tops forladies.” Mrs Undie-Adie said, showing me some lovely dresses in vibrant Ankaraprint. These days there are lots of fun edgy designs you can make with theAnkara fabric, you can make it into the traditional iro and buba, a skirt and ablouse, a baby doll dress or a jumpsuit, all of which will turn out glamorouswith the right accessories.

Ghollywood pardons Yvonne Nelson

Posted by [email protected] on July 17, 2011 at 6:49 PM Comments comments (0)

There are strong indications that sensational actress, Yvonne Nelson, (who was banned in November last year from featuring in any movie in Ghana by that country’s Film Regulatory Council) may have been pardoned.

She was banned following complains of rudeness, disrespect raised against her by one of the country’s movie producers, Abdul Sallam Mumuni, CEO of Venus Films Productions towards fellow actresses, producers and crew members on location and even when off-camera.

HVP learnt that the embattled actress may have been pardoned by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG).

She was banned by the Film Producers Association, Distributors Association, Retailers and Marketers, (FIPAG).

Although the film producers, according to our source, have not released any official statement to that effect yet, it was gathered that the P.R.O of the Association, informed one of their members on phone that the official statement will be made public very soon.

However, another side of the story has it that the regulatory council is yet to accept the actress’ apology. Yvonne who initially refused to accept her mistakes, was said to have officially apologised to the CEO of Venus Films Productions and the Film Regulatory Council. She’s spent months without movie roles.

“We’ve had several meetings on Yvonne’s issue and a lot of mportant people in the movie industry have pleaded on her behalf. And after that we’d go public with the communique.

But until then, her ban stands” the PRO of the Film Regulatory Council (FRC) was quoted as saying. The final decision on her matter was taken on Thursday while we were preparing to rest our pages.

Meanwhile, CEO of Venus Film who is in the center of Yvonne’s ban,Sallam , according to reports, has officially forgiven Yvonne Nelson.

As a matter of fact, as soon as the film producers lift her ban, Sallam hopes to put the sexy actress on the set of his new movie titled ”The Assassins”.
